This monograph demonstrates that the Epistle to the Hebrews and the Book of Revelation are results of highly creative, hypertextual reworking of the Acts of the Apostles. In both cases, this detailed reworking consists of around 700 strictly sequentially organized conceptual and often also linguistic correspondences to Acts. The strictly sequential, hypertextual dependence on Acts explains numerous surprising features of both Hebrews and Revelation. Critical explanations of such features, which are offered in this monograph, ensure the reliability of the new solution to the problem of the identities of Hebrews and Revelation, as well as their relationships to the Lucan, post-Pauline school of literary-theological production.

Aleksandr Men' (1935-1990) gehört zu den bedeutendsten russischsprachigen orthodoxen Theologen des 20. Jahrhunderts. Diese Studie analysiert systematisch sein Konzept einer orthodoxen Erlösungslehre, die vor allem in Auseinandersetzung mit der protestantischen Exegese eigene Varianten einer Entmythologisierungs- und Evolutionstheorie anbietet. Aleksandr Men’ (1935–1990) gilt als einer der bedeutendsten orthodoxen russischsprachigen Theologen des 20. Jahrhunderts, jedoch wurde sein Konzept einer theologischen Erlösungslehre bisher nicht systematisch untersucht. Bei der Entwicklung seiner theologischen Ideen beteiligt sich Men’ einerseits an den orthodoxen Debatten um eine Auslegung der Erlösungstat Jesu Christi. Andererseits lässt sich aber in seinem Werk auch eine intensive Auseinandersetzung mit der westlichen (vor allem der protestantischen) Exegese nachweisen. Die Autorin nutzt einen innovativen methodischen Ansatz, der in der bisherigen Forschung zu seiner Person und seinem theologischen Denken wenig beachtet wurde. Es handelt sich dabei um eine Systematisierung von Men’s Beschäftigung mit den Fragen und Themen, die die orthodoxe Theologie am Ende des 19. und zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts geprägt haben. Damit wird Men’s kritisches Gespräch mit den theologischen Entwürfen in Ost und West rekonstruiert und das eigenständige Konzept seiner orthodoxen Erlösungslehre innerhalb einer gesamteuropäischen christlichen Theologie verdeutlicht.

The Ottoman and Habsburg Empires both faced the "general crisis" of the 17 th century. Yet they responded to the crisis very differently. The Habsburgs centralized fiscal structures, which would facilitate economic development in the 19th century. The Ottomans, which initially had more centralized tax collection, opted for decentralization, paving the way for economic peripheralization. To account for this puzzle, this book offers a political-economic theory of institutional change that focuses on the structure and intensity of elite conflict over the distribution of resources. Using the comparative-historical method, the book demonstrates that high levels of conflict generated political incentives for centralization, and where such incentives were lacking, decentralization followed.

Die konzeptionelle Ausgestaltung der Alterssicherung, das heißt die Gratwanderung zwischen Bismarck und Beveridge, wird wegen der sich abzeichnenden demografischen Veränderungen kontrovers diskutiert. Angesichts beträchtlicher Funktionsmängel des Wohnungsmarktes besteht wohnungspolitischer Handlungsbedarf. Die Studie zeigt, daß der soziale Mietwohnungsbau nicht in der Lage ist, einkommensschwache Haushalte und soziale Randgruppen effizient mit Wohnraum zu versorgen. Einzelne Korrekturmaßnahmen wie beispielsweise die Fehlbelegungsabgabe können keine Abhilfe schaffen. Auch die 1994 eingeführte einkommensorientierte Förderung weist erhebliche Probleme auf, bietet jedoch Ansatzpunkte für eine Neukonzeption des Fördersystems: Zentrales Instrument der sozialen Sicherung des Wohnens ist dabei ein leicht modifiziertes Wohngeld. Es wird flankiert durch den Erwerb kommunaler Belegungsrechte im Wohnungsbestand für solche Haushalte, die nicht aufgrund fehlender Mietzahlungsfähigkeit, sondern wegen persönlicher Eigenschaften auf dem Wohnungsmarkt benachteiligt werden.

This study presents a comprehensive examination of party autonomy as provided for in the European Rome I Regulation and the Rome II Regulation. It follows an integrated method of analysis, whereby the principle of party autonomy as provided for in the Regulations is first compared with the pre-regulation position in Germany and England. This provides the basis for the subsequent critical reflection on the position of party autonomy in the Anglo-common law jurisdictions of Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Singapore. The study proposes that these European developments make an important contribution to the call for reform of the common law position concerning party autonomy in contractual, and more significantly, in non-contractual obligations.
